La 1a gira de Mesoamérica Resiste en Colombia
culminó en una de las comunidades que llevamos un tiempo acompañando, La
Jagua Huila. Con ayuda del Colectivo Jaguos por el Territorio realizamos dos días de actividades en el pueblo abierto a
todo el público.
The 1st tour of Mesoamerica
Resiste in Colombia ended in one of the communities that we have been
accompanying for some time, La Jagua, Huila. With the help of the Collective Jaguos por el Territorio, we hosted two days of events in the village that were open to the public.
Un cambio drástico que vimos llegando al pueblo, fué la obra de construcción para reubicar las lagunas de oxidación. Por el embalse proyectado por el Proyecto Hidroeléctrico el Quimbo, la reubicación de las lagunas es uno de varios proyectos de infraestructura que le queda pendiente por cumplir a la empresa. A bajar al Río Magdalena vimos como las retro-excavadoras destruyeron parte de la peña y la vegetación que queda entre el pueblo y el río para la obra.
A drastic change we saw arriving in the village was the construction site associated with the relocating of the oxidization ponds. Because of the projected reservoir for the Quimbo Hydroelectric Project, the relocating of the oxidization ponds is one of many infrastructure projects that the company is suppose to complete. In going down to the Magdalena River we saw how the bulldozers have destroyed part of the hill and vegetation that existed between the village and the river as part of the relocation.
La primera actividad que realizamos fue una muestra de las cuatro campañas gráficas de La Colmena en el sector del Río Magdalena conocido como "Las Peñas". Por varias horas los telones sobre el Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas, Plan Colombia, el Verdadero Costo del Carbón y Mesoamérica Resiste se guindaron de los arboles de Bili bil de lado del río. Después de varias horas de exponer las obras se hizo una presentación de Mesoamérica Resiste relatando la historia de la campaña gráfica en una comunidad y un lugar amenazado por uno de los mega-proyectos ilustrados en la gráfica, un represa.
The first activity that we held was a showing of the Beehive´s four graphic campaigns in an area of the Magdalena River known as "Las Peñas". For various hours the cloth banners of the Free Trade Area of the America, Plan Colombia, the True Cost of Coal and Mesoamerica Resiste hung from the Bili bil trees along the banks of the river. After some time of showing all the graphics, we presented a story telling of Mesoamerica Resiste, sharing the tale of this graphic campaign to a community and in a place that is threatened by one of the mega-projects illustrated in the graphic, a dam.
El segundo día realizamos un taller de dibujo en el colegio de La Jagua donde, igual que el día anterior, llegaron amigas de Garzón, Gigante y jóvenes de la comunidad. En el taller nos enfocamos en practicar dibujar distintos animales de la región.
On the second day we held a drawing workshop in the school of La Jagua where, just as the previous day, friends from Garzón and Gigante arrived as well as youth from the community. In the workshop we focused on practicing drawing different animals from the region.
En los próximos meses vamos estar anunciando sobre el proyecto Geocoreografías: Entre Aguas que se realizará durante el resto del año con Jaguos por el Territorio, Ríos Vivos Huila y otras organizaciones de la región en la implementación de estrategias artísticas, culturales y de comunicación popular en la lucha por la defensa del territorio ante los distintos mega proyectos minero-energéticos que actualmente amenazan el Huila.
In the next few months we will be announcing the project, Geo choreographies: Between Waters that will take place during the remainder of the year with Jaguos por el Territorio, Ríos Vivos Huila and other organizations in the region. The project will focus on the implementation of artistic, cultural and popular media strategies as part of the struggle for land defense against the different mining and energy mega-projects that currently threaten Huila.
