The day after the charm of the chirimia and theatrical presentations, we went to the barrio La Floresta with members of RECAB and with a few teachers who were visiting the city from Valle del Cauca, did an explanation of the Plan Colombia graphic that brought up experiences we were not aware of. For example, the bankruptcy of the match company el Rey in Pereira because a Spanish company their matches at losses in order to eliminate its competition in the market and when they became a monopoly they raised their prices, and now matches are more expensive per pack. A compañera also mentioned that there is alot of work supporting folks who grow, agriculturalists though a need for more of the same solidarity relations with people who make their living from fishing.
Afterards we continued to the barrio Buenos Aires where the group-space Platohedro was one of various spaces in the city to simultaneaously launch the documentary film "The City behind the mirrors." This film, made by people active in social movements in the city, shows the indignity of poverty that is lived by most families in Medellin. After the movie, again we were able to share the Plan Colombia banner with people who were present. Like people in the workshop of the afternoon, they all seemed to like the work.
