Estampando con Semillas Creativas / Silk Screening with Semillas Creativas

Aunque el año escolar esta llegando a su fin, las Abejas siguen tomando las oportunidades de platicar con diversos grupos de estudiantes y jóvenes. Esta semana volvimos a Juan Pablo II para seguir el intercambio de conocimientos e imaginación con las Semillas Creativas. Escogimos unos de los dibujos más detallados y relacionados con los gráficos y después de unas horas en photoshop, pudimos usar las imágenes y quemar las planchas para la jornada de estampado con unas 100 Semillas creativas; alumnos, profes y unas hormigas que vinieron a ayudar. Como habían más de 100 camisetas, chaquetas y otra ropa para estampar, solo se pudo estampar dos diseños. Las camisetas que lxs niñxs estamparon el lunes con la telaraña del ALCA y las hormigas de la tradición oral de Plan Colombia van hacer las camisetas que usaron el miércoles en su grado de año. Como había tantas Semillas Creativas felices, saltando, corriendo, metiéndose en todos los espacios, las abejas y hormigas se inventaron actividades para entretenerlxs mientras que otras hormigas seguían con la jornada de estampado. Primero nos tomamos la calle en la práctica de un poco del baile pisao o “step”. Era algo muy nuevo para casi todxs las Semillas, hormigas y abejas nos morimos de la risa. Después del pisao fuimos a la plazoleta y jugamos un partido de micro fútbol hasta que ya después de 6 horas de sol, fútbol, estampado y pisao termino la jornada. Todxs felices pero bien cansados. Este viernes se realizará otra jornada de estampado con las mismas imágenes más unos de la Colmena, también acompañado por una peli en la plazoleta. La idea que tienen las hormigas y abejas es seguir trabajando con las Semillas Creativas cuando regresan el año entrante y seguir con propuestas y proyectos de cómo crear una pedagogía inclusiva, interesante y mas que todo, divertida.

Even though the school year is coming to an end, the Bees still take every opportunity to converse with diverse groups of students and youth. This week we returned to the barrio Juan Pablo II to continue our exchange of skills and imagination with the Semillas Creativas. We picked some of the most detailed drawings that were influenced by the graphics and after some hours in photoshop we were able to use the images to prepare the silk screens for a silk screening session with about 100 Semillas Creativas; students, teachers and Ants that came along to help. Since there was over 100 t-shirts, jackets and other clothes to silk screen we were only able to silk screen two designs. This past Monday the kids silk screened a spider web like the one from the FTAA graphic and the oral traditional ants from the Plan Colombia graphic. On Wednesday of this week the kids used these same shirts at their graduation ceremony. Since there were so many Semillas that were happy, jumping, running and getting into every lil space they could the ants and bees came up with games and activities to keep them active while the other ants were busy away silk screening. First we took over the street and started to practice some steping. It was something new for almost everyone there and all the Semillas, ants and bees were cracking up with laughter. After the stepping we went to the plaza and had a game of micro fútbol until finally after 6 hours of sun, fútbol, silk screening and stepping we called it quits for the day. Everyone was really happy but equally if not more exhausted. This Friday will continue the silk screening with the same and many more designs including some Beehive graphics as well as a film showing in the plaza. The idea that the ants and bees have is to continue working with the Semillas Creativas when they return next year and continue with the proposals and projects of how to create a more interesting, inclusive and most importantly fun pedagogy.

Abejas y Semillas Creativas/ Bees & Semillas Creativas (Creative Seeds)

La semana pasada una Abeja fue al barrio Juan Pablo II en Ciudad Bolívar para realizar una charla con lxs jóvenes de ese barrio que estudien en la Asociación Semillas Creativas. Este barrio esta en la localidad con una reputación de ser lo mas peligroso, violento y pobre de la ciudad. No tanto ahora comparado a lo que era en una época. A principio de los 90s en la plaza del barrio los paracos masacraron como 20 jóvenes del barrio. En esa misma plaza en donde se realizo la charla y esta ubicado la asociación. Semillas Creativas trabaja con jóvenes del barrio en donde muchos vienen de situaciones difíciles como de trabajo infantil, familias desplazadas por la violencia o que están atrasados en el estudio. Semillas trabaja con lxs chicxs para ayudarlos adelantarse en el estudio y colegio. Si no fuera por la Asociación muchos de estos chicxs no tendrían una oportunidad de estudiar fuera de colegios distritales.

La charla fue algo muy especial, de las mejores charlas que ha hecho la abeja que participo. La manta se distendió en la plaza y una amontonada de peladitxs se agrupó alrededor y hasta encima de la tela. Estos eran niñxs que no han tenido el estudio o colegio que se cree "normal", pero de todas las audiencias era el grupo más participativo y consiente de los temas que se trataban; la perdida de tradición oral, lo malo de la televisión, contaminación del medio ambiente, cultivos transgénicos y los megaproyectos. Por casualidad detrás del barrio se veía la continuación de la montaña, que es parte de la localidad y urbanización de Ciudad Bolívar, en plena operación minera. Que sea para el uranio o cual quiere otro mineral de interés a las multinacionales que quieren explotar la tierra debajo de Ciudad Bolívar para poder contaminar, enfermar y destruir la salud del medio ambiente y las personas para hacer mas plata. Y abajo del barrio se veía unas lagunas llenas de agua verde brillante, aguas contaminadas y abandonadas en el medio del barrio. Estos mega proyectos urbanos entre otros en la localidad son principalmente por la multinacional Mexicana de cemento, CeMex. Si fuera Norte America, le llamarían racismo/clasismo ambiental. Mientras que la realidad de los gráficos estaba presente en el propio lugar donde estábamos, el grupo estaba tan feliz y involucrado en la interpretación de los gráficos que también se les presento la obra del ALCA.

Después de la charla entramos a la casa de Semillas todxs que participamos y nos sentamos a dibujar los aspectos de los gráficos que nos impactaron más. La mayoría de peladxs dibujaron las hormigas contando historias alrededor de la fogata, los helicópteros, la araña en su telaraña y las carabelas de Colon. Este nuevo proyecto cooperativo entre Semillas y las Abejas tendría una segunda parte donde se va crear una nueva escena de los varios dibujos que hicieron los niñxs para quemar las en una plancha y poder estampar su ropa con su propio diseño. Este proyecto se piensa como un nuevo método de trabajar con grupos de niñxs y poder dejarles una parte del imagen para tener después de contar el cuento además de darles una copia del afiche para seguir usando.

Last week a Bee went to the barrio Juan Pablo II in Ciudad Bolívar to do a story telling with the youth of the barrio that study with the Association Semillas Creativas. This barrio is in the locality that has the reputation for being the most dangerous, violent and poor of the city. While relattively calmer now, not to long ago this reputation was very well deserved. In the early 90s the paramilitaries massacred about 20 youth from the barrio in the plaza, the same plaza where the story telling was done and where Semillas is located. The Association works with a lot of youth from the barrio that come from difficult situations like working in the streets, from families displaced by violence or are behind in their studies. Semillas works with the kids to help them catch up or get ahead in their schooling. If it were not for the Association many of these kids would not have the opportunity to be able to study outside of the schools.

The story telling was something special and one of the best talks that the bee participating that day did. The banner was unfolded in the plaza and a whole bunch of lil ones piled around and eventually onto the cloth. These are kids who have not had the study or schooling that would normally be considered necessary, though of all the groups this one was by far the most participative and conscious of the issues being discussed; the loss of oral tradition, the negativity of the television, pollution and the environment, genetically modified foods and mega development projects. And it just so happened that behind the barrio continuing onto the mountain, that is part of the locality and urbanization of Ciudad Bolívar, there was a full out mining operation. Whether it is for the uranium or any other mineral that is of interest to multi national corporations, they want to exploit the land under Ciudad Bolívar to pollute, sicken and destroy the health of the environment and the people to make profits. Below the barrio you could see some ponds filled with bright green water, water that is contaminated and abandoned in the middle of the barrio. These urban mega projects and many others are the work of Mexican cement company, CeMex. If it were North America, it would be called environmental racism/classism. While the very reality of the graphics was in existence in the space where we were, the group was so excited and busy interpreting the graphics that the FTAA story telling was also done.

After the story telling we all went into the group´s building and sat down to draw the images that we saw that most impacted us. Most of the kids drew images like the story telling ants around the campfire, the helicopters, the spider in its web and Columbus ships. This collaborative project between Semillas and the Bees will have a second part a new scene will be created from parts of the drawings that the children made and turned into a silk screen design so that the kids can silk screen their clothes with their own designs. This project is being thought of as a new method to work with youth and be able to leave them a part of the image to keep after the story telling in addition to the copy of the poster they keep to continue using.
